Introduction to Biodynamic Agriculture

Definition

Biodynamics is a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming, gardening, food, and nutrition (Biodynamic Association).

Biodynamic Agriculture;
  • Is an advanced form of organic agriculture with an emphasis on food quality and soil health
  • Focuses on spiritual exposure/cosmetic energy
  • Doesn't use synthetics
  • Astrological influence is considered with biophysical factors

Biodynamic Agriculture includes;

  • Improvement of soil health - Major driven factor
  • Soil revitalization
  • Improvement of soil fertility
  • Self sufficiency
  • Improvement of crop resistance

History of Biodynamic Agriculture

  • Rudolf Steiner is the pioneer of this system (1861 - 1925)
Rudolf Steiner
  • Rudolf Steiner described the planetary rhythms on the growth of plant and animals
  • He identified the regeneration of the forces that work through the soil to the plant

Aspects Considered in Biodynamic Process

  • Living organisms exist in equilibrium and any change to equilibrium leads to changes
  • Spike like animal body parts such as horns continuously exchange cosmic energy
  • Some body parts such as horn, skull and bladder of animals are use in biodynamic preparations (These are commonly know as 'kems' - කෙම් ක්‍රම in Sri Lanka)
  • Influence of moon and other planets are considered in this agriculture system
