Dapog Nursery

Introduction

Dapog nursery; 

• is first originated in Philippines
• is now common in South and South East Asia
• is really easy to establish as it can be located anywhere on a flat surface
• require small nursery area
• is the fastest method to raise paddy seedlings
• takes 12 - 15 days to transplanting 
• requires carefully controlled irrigation

Steps of Establishing Dapog Nursery

This nursery can be established in any flat surface

• First, construct a raised earthened bed
• Cover the bed with green banana leaves or plastic sheeting
• Surface of the bed should be kept as level as possible
• Pre-germinated seeds should be to sow 
• After sowing the seeds, from the 3rd day seed bed should be kept continuously flooded
• Seedlings for one hectare can be produced in a 100m²

Advantages

• Ability raise seedlings in relatively short period of time
• Require a small area to raise seedlings
• Can establish at any place
• Excellent for replacing small quantities of seedlings destroyed by pest
• Minimal transplanting shock (Recovery of seedlings once transplanted is fast)

Disadvantages

• Transplanting can be relatively difficult because seedlings are small
